Prestige Figures Charge of the Light Brigade - Small Size

On 25th October 1854 during the Crimean War, the Light Brigade displayed one of the most remarkable acts of bravery ever shown by the British Army. Royal Doulton's Alan Maslankowski dramatically captures one soldier's charge, from the battle cry and the flow of the galloping horse, to the telling detail of the meticulously reproduced uniform. Look closely and even the ground contains a fallen bugle. Each Royal Doulton bone china figurine comes with a black ribbon-tied scroll of Lord Tennyson's epic poem.

'Half a league, half a league, half a league onwards, all in the valley of Death rode the six hundred...' On 25th October 1854, at the height of the Crimean War, the Light Brigade displayed one of the most remarkable acts of bravery ever shown in the history of the British Army. Obeying orders they knew would almost certainly result in their deaths, this fearless group of men charged heroically into a narrow valley bristling with Russian enemy artillery. Of the 673 men who entered that inferno at Balaclava, 303 were killed or seriously wounded.

The figurine was created by Senior Sculptor Alan Maslankowski. As they thunder into the deafening volleys cannon and musket fire, the adrenaline etched deeply into the rider and horse's face is clear to see.

Such a sophisticated and dramatic Royal Doulton figurine demands a special approach. Alan Maslankowski commented on the clay he had to use, "I usually use water-based modelling clay, but for the larger models, such as the Charge of the Light Brigade, I used an oil-based clay which dries out more slowly and so gave me time to work on this complex piece."

Nevertheless, the effort was worth it since this Prestige Figure is now Alan's favourite piece. He said, "The Charge of the Light Brigade will always be a significant piece - it was such an enormous and complex structure."
