Prestige Figures Matador and Bull - Small Size

From the sheer ferocity of the bull, to the arrogance and disdain of the matador in his splendid regalia, it raises the fundamental question of every bullfight - whether or not the matador can cheat death with his skills, grace, and daring? This Royal Doulton collectable stands 17.5 cm in height, and is made available in a limited edition of 500. Its a small size version of the Matador and Bull figurine has been modelled by Alan Maslankowski, with gold trim, after the larger original by Peggy Davies.

The original Matador and Bull was the work of world-renowned modeller Peggy Davies (1920-1989). Born in Stoke-on-Trent in the heart of the Staffordshire 'Potteries', Peggy worked with the famous Charles and Jack Noke on figurines and enjoyed a long association with Royal Doulton.

Her flair for capturing the very flow of movement ? and love of complex figurines - can be seen in Matador and Bull which she created in 1963. Peggy was inspired by traditional Spanish bullfight posters, but also took the time to study the anatomy of bulls at local farms.

Prestige subjects were clearly a favourite and, as she told the Leek Post and Times in 1982, "It's the preparation and information rather than the execution of the model that takes the time." One of the first three models to be completed was presented to Real Madrid by Stoke City Football Club.

For genuinely collectable craftsmanship and artistry take a look at Royal Doulton Prestige Figures and Limited Editions. Prestige Figures can take months to create and decorate in detail, and are made to individual order. Each Limited Edition is individually numbered and comes with a certificate of authenticity, and the moulds broken once an edition is fully subscribed.
